SIMSBURY, CT — Four people were injured — and three of them were hospitalized — after a wood-burning fire pit caught fire in Simsbury on Saturday night, multiple news outlets reported.

Simsbury fire officials responded to 140 Nod Road at around 9:10 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person on fire, WTNH reported.

Responding firefighters said the wood-burning fire pit at the address had been "ignited," according to the TV station.

The incident is currently under investigation, NBC Connecticut reported, and the Simsbury Fire Marshal's Office has shared reminders for anyone who uses wood-burning fire pits.

According to WFSB, the office said to burn only clean, dry hardwood that's been seasoned for six months; to use only commercial fire starters to light a fire; to keep chairs, children and pets away from a fire pit; and to have a 3-foot "free zone" around the pit.
